Sometimes you just have to have that one item that makes you smile. Be on the lookout at thrift stores, yard sales, or even your grandmother's attic. The key is to look for shape or style you like and not focus on the finish or paint color. An easy coat of bright spray paint and a coat antiquing wax can make anything work in your decor.

Mod Chalkboard

This easy DIY project can be summed up in three steps

1. Buy a hollow door at a home improvement store (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)

2. apply multiple coats of chalboard paint - even on sides

3. Hang anywhere you need lists, reminders, family note zones

A Great DIY Counter Solution......Couture Version

This bathroom is scheduled to get a major renovation... eventually. The original formica countertop (came with house) desperately needed to be replaced and I just didn't want to spend money on a counter that was to come right back out.
The look of concrete counters has always been one of my favorites, so I designed a solution that gave me that look with little budget - very little!
Remove formica layer (support wood remains), skim with concrete, polish, seal, and wax.  Perfect concrete counter without the weight of solid concrete and the hassle of removing the sink.

An Attic Treasure

I didn't have to go far to find this treasure.
Ossie and I are only the second owners of our 1950 house and in the attic were a few interesting boxes left under piles of dust and insulation. In the very bottom of the very last box (also about the time I was about to ditch everything), I stumbled on what is now my favorite wall hangings ever. These are the original hand drawn plans to our home... perfectly yellowed and aged! A few great frames from the ever faithful IKEA and our dining room has FABULOUS and completely original artwork.

When you don't have Art

I want a LARGE piece of art for behind our headboard and since I know I will contemplate that decision for way too long, I decided to spruce up the wall to hold me over. The pattern began as a two tone rectangle design and just kept growing more rectangles. Fun accent wall with just tape & paint.
